The members of the Schengen evaluation group have adopted on Friday the technical report regarding Romania, reports newswire Mediafax quoting official sources.
Once this report is adopted, the stage of technical requirements and the requirement to align to European standards the domains evaluated by experts is through. Next is the political vote within the European Parliament.
However, Bulgaria’s technical report also needs to be adopted since the two states need to join Schengen together.
The evaluation report of Romania was initially presented on January 14 in Brussels by the coordinating expert of the Schengen evaluation mission of Romania, representative of the Hungarian presidency.
During this meeting, the French representative asked for more time to study the report, reserving the option to ask more questions concerning the state of the Schengen Informatic System in Romania. However, the representatives of the other states positively evaluated the report at that date. In the meantime, the French representative withdrew the objections.
