Valentine’s Day Charity Ball, which took place on February 12, at Ghika Palace, has collected enough funds to offer over 50 scholarships to deserving underprivileged students this year. Over 250 guests attended the fundraiser organized by Blue Heron Foundation.
The Forget-Me-Not Award, offered to notable contributions in the Romanian civil society, was handed by general Marin Dragnea, president of the National Association of War Veterans. This year’s humanitarian award went to Steven and Valeria van Groningen, “for their sustained efforts to improve the life conditions of underprivileged children”, as Mike Costache, strategy and fundraising director of the Blue Heron Foundation stated during a previous press conference.
“There are many people who need our support and, at the same time, a lot of us may offer this support. What we are doing today brings us closer to one another. It’s not all about money, but also the desire to help, to volunteer”, stated Steven van Groningen, president at Raiffeisen Bank and president, vice-president and member of United Way Romania.
The fifth edition of the Valentine’s Day Charity Ball joined together guests with backgrounds in business, diplomacy, press and the civil society. It also featured several entertainment moments, as was the case of the debutants’ dance conducted by Oana Paveluc, Miss Universe Romania 2010 and Blue Heron Foundation ambassador.
