The Federation of the Association of Cancer Patients in Romania (FABC – Federatia Asociatiilor Bolnavilor de Cancer din Romania) is organizing a series of activities meant to draw attention towards large intestine cancer and means of preventing it.
Therefore, in the March 7 – 31 interval, FABC will develop an information campaign in subway trains, on the M2 line, with posters bearing the slogan “What don’t you know about the large intestine cancer?” (Ce nu stiti despre cancerul intestinului gros?). At the end of the campaign, a mini caravan will be present in Herastrau park, at the Charles de Gaulle entrance. Specialized doctors, as well as fitness trainer Florentina Opris, as well public figures Corina Chiriac and Cristina Stamate will also be prevent at the event.
“We believe that a right information regarding this type of cancer, and any disease in general, is the first step towards prevention and education. This is why, through this campaign, we are trying to make information more accessible to people and hope to make them more aware concerning periodical medical exams,” said Cezar Irimia, FABC president.
In Romania, large intestine cancer is the second most frequent type of cancer, for women and men alike, reaching 13 percent of total cancer cases. In Europe, around 190,000 people are diagnosed with this type of cancer. Almost 20 percent of the diagnosed find themselves in the final stages of the disease.
