Romanian wine producer Domeniile Ostrov has invested approximately EUR 1 million in a hotel with 8 rooms and a villa complex which will be opened in three months, the company has announced. This is part of a EUR 4 million investment project which will also include a guesthouse , a restaurant, a horse-riding center with additional accommodation facilities and business and research centers, said Oana Belu, shareholder Domeniile Ostrov.
The facilities will be located on the grounds of the Domeniile Ostrov estate which is located in Constanta county on the right bank of the Danube and consists of some 1,300 hectares of vineyard, 500 hectares of orchards and 200 hectares cultivated with vegetables.
Since acquiring the estate some 10 years ago, the new owners say they have constantly invested in the property, in replanting the vineyards and orchards and production facilities. “Our investment project peaks with transforming Domeniile Ostrov into a wine tourism area,” said Belu.
“The area has one some the largest vineyards and orchards in South-Eastern Europe. In the coming years we want Domeniile Ostrov to become an attraction for tourists and travel agencies in Romania and abroad. In the future we want cruise ships coming from Western Europe on the Danube to stop by us,” she added.
Ostrovit, the company which owns the Domeniile Ostrov brand reported a turnover of about RON 16 million (approximately EUR 3.6 million) last year and produced 5 million liters or wine. This year the winemaker targets a 20 percent growth.
