Oscar winning film director and legend of Czech cinematography, Jiri Menzel, received a decoration from the Romanian president Traian Basescu for his role in culture promotion. See pictures from the event below:
The award was offered to Menzel last week as “a form of high appreciation for his directing activities, and for his great contribution in promoting world culture through cinematic art” by Kelemen Hunor, minister of culture, commissioned by the Romanian president in this purpose.
Menzel arrived in Bucharest to present his films during a retrospective organised by the Czech Centre on May 16-19 at Cinema Studio in Bucharest. Found on his fourth visit in Bucharest, Menzel declared at the press conference before the event: “I was pleasantly surprised, as well as honored to find out about this award and I am very happy to see that my films are still appreciated in Romania.”
