Last week, on July 8, Romanian town and shipyard Mangalia was declared a touristic objective through a larger rehabilitation project developed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism and the Town Hall of Mangalia. The touristic port features nautical sports, among others.
The project is currently in development, but has been finalized in a large part, says Mihai Claudiu Tusac, Mangalia mayor: “We have demonstrated that it is possible here, as well: that in Romania, a project planned for 24 months may be finalized in eight. Today, we are inaugurating the first three port sections, which represents 85 percent of the total.”
After the project is finalized, it will include free-time area, promenade areas, playgrounds for children, water cascades in front of the President Hotel, the construction of access stairs towards Mangalia beach, ambient lighting and urban furnishing, the development of a miniature golf terrain Adventure Golf, commercial units, access to town power, water and sewage.
Among the soon-to-come events organized at the seaport: Regatta Benetton Nautic Life, a yachting competition, which is currently in development. Other yachting competitions will also take place here. Moreover, Mangalia may also become a basis for coastal tourist ships that will sail along the Romanian coast, with stops at Neptun, Costinesti, Eforie, Constanta, Mamaia or Midia.
The total value of the project is of an estimate of EUR 4 million. It started on May 1 2010 and will be finalized 24 months later.
