The Romanian currency leu has strengthened 0.6 percent on the day to 4.4924 units, the highest level in six weeks, according to the National Bank of Romania. A lower level was reported on July 5 when a euro was traded for RON 4.4796.
Compared to the RON 4.6481 vs Euro peak which was reported two weeks ago following political developments, the national currency has gained 3.3 percent.
The exchage rate is close to its equilibrium level in the present economic context and there is even “little room” for some appreciation should the political crisis be solved, said Erik der Vrijer, the IMF mission chief in Romania, two days ago.
