The revenues of telecom operator Cosmote Romania, part of Greek group OTE, gained 4.4 percent to EUR 231.1 million in the first semester of this year from the same period of last year, while the EBITDA soared by 35.8 percent to EUR 55 million.
Cosmote’s second quarter revenues fell by 0.2 percent to EUR 113.8 million, while the EBITDA increased by 28.8 percent to EUR 29.1 million.
“Cosmote Romania continued its positive performance in the first half of this year, despite the tough competition, the reduction of interconnection tariffs, the unpredictable economic environment and the investments in the broadband and data services. The company grew its EBITDA profitability, the revenues and the ARPU (average revenue per user) year on year,” said Konstantinos Apostolou, chief financial officer Cosmote Romania.
Cosmote’s total customer base remained stable at 6.4 million, out of which 23.6 percent was postpaid. The number of business customers grew by 32 percent in Q2, and the 3G customer base more than doubled in the same period.
The company registered a three percent drop in service revenue due to interconnection cuts implemented in March. The ARPU increased by 3.9 percent in H1.
Cosmote estimates that it holds a 25 percent market share and ranks third in the number of clients on the domestic market.
