The Bucharest City Hall, together with the Romanian Architects Order, the Bucharest branch of the Romanian Architects Order, the Union of the Architects in Romania, and bricks producer Wienerberger, have started an architecture contest designed to find the best ways to transform Piata Universitatii in Bucharest. The contest is open to architects in Romania, countries of the European Union and Switzerland. The contest was occasioned by the works started in 2010 to build an underground passage in Piata Universitatii.
The Bucharest City Hall is giving EUR 117,000 for the awards and the design contract. Projects can be submitted until October 26, 2011. The winning project will be awarded with RON 60,000 (approximately EUR 14,200.) The members of the jury deciding on the winning project are architects Luigi Snozzi from Switzerland, Luis F. P. Conceicao (Portugal), Angelo Roventa (Austria), Zeno Bogdanescu (Romania), Nicolae Lascu (Romania), Eugen Panescu (Romania) and Bucharest’s chief architect Gheorghe Patrascu.
The official site for the contest can be found here.
