This year’s edition of ARTmania festival has Korn as headliner, being one of the most influential names in the international rock and metal scene, known for significantly defining and promoting the metal genre, who will perform at the ARTmania Festival from July 26-28, 2024, in Sibiu.

The band joins the 17th edition’s impressive line-up, including notable names such as Spiritbox, Igorrr, Borknagar (NO), Monuments (UK), Satyricon (NO), The Flower Kings (SE), Alpha Q (RO), Awake the Demons (RO), and TAINE (RO), with more names to be announced soon.

Korn’s performance at the festival is part of their European tour promoting their latest album, “Requiem.” This will be their first concert in Romania in nearly ten years.

Formed in 1993 in Bakersfield, California, by three members of the former funk metal band L.A.P.D., Korn took the music world by storm with their debut, which introduced a unique sound. With the help of producer Ross Robinson, they laid the foundation for what would become known as the “nu-metal” genre with their influential self-titled debut album in 1994 and its highly successful follow-up, “Life is Peachy” (1996).

Their albums “Follow the Leader” (1998) and “Issues” (1999) catapulted them to mainstream success, solidifying their status as legends in the music industry. With 14 studio albums and an impressive array of awards, Korn continues to captivate fans worldwide. They will reunite with Romanian fans at ARTmania on July 27 for a special show.

Spiritbox: Rising metal sensation to make Romanian debut

Spiritbox, inspired by a device believed to communicate with the beyond, will perform for the first time in Romania at ARTmania. Known for their rapid rise to fame, Spiritbox amassed 66 million streams before releasing their debut album, “Eternal Blue” (2017), which topped rock and hard rock charts in the US and Canada and reached #13 on the Billboard 200.

The album received a perfect score from Kerrang! magazine, which called it “the debut of the year.” The band has since graced the covers of Revolver, Poll Star, Rock Sound, and Metal Hammer, with the latter naming “Eternal Blue” a “modern heavy metal masterpiece.” Spiritbox’s intense, melodic, and technically splendid performances promise to captivate the audience at ARTmania on July 27.

Igorrr: The sensation of experimental metal to perform at ARTmania Festival 2024

Throughout his discography, Igorrr’s music reflects the influence of artists like Meshuggah, Chopin, Cannibal Corpse, Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, and Aphex Twin. Despite never adhering to a specific style or recycling ideas, each Igorrr track is a burst of creativity that, despite the significant diversity of his works from one album to another, maintains a cohesive universe.

Originally a one-man show, Igorrr became a band in 2017, adding a new level of intensity and overflowing energy to live performances. With the release of “Savage Sinusoid” in 2017, Igorrr established itself as a truly unique musical force, a reputation cemented by “Spirituality And Distortion” in 2020. Fans will have the chance to experience this live on July 26 in Piața Mare, Sibiu.

ARTmania in Context

This Friday and Saturday, participants of the ARTmania Festival will be treated to a series of unique artistic performances and concerts under the banner of “ARTmania in Context.” This new project, launching on Saturday, July 27, in Piața Mare, features a special show ahead of the KORN concert, culminating in a series of concerts on Sunday, July 28, in a historic setting.

“ARTmania in Context” is a cultural initiative that emphasizes the fusion of traditional art forms with innovative and experimental expressions from Sibiu. The project aims to explore key areas such as cultural dialogue, international cooperation, new technologies, and the sustainability of art in cultural, economic, and social terms. By highlighting the value of local cultural acts, the project seeks to strengthen the local community and maintain culture and art as unifying elements of Sibiu’s identity.

The project is led by an exceptional team, including Artistic Director Bobi Pricop and Principal Director Oana Micu, who bring a complex vision to the project through their collaboration. Writers Paul Breazu and Cătălina Stanislav, along with choreographer Filip Stoica, add a new dimension to “ARTmania in Context.” Musician Alexei Țurcan’s involvement in creating and editing original music enriches the artistic experience and enhances the captivating atmosphere of ARTmania events.

“ARTmania in Context” aims to offer a balanced environment of creativity, talent, and innovation, promising memorable results for the audience. The concept of contextual art, which explores the relationship between the artwork and its context, is central to this project. This approach emphasizes external influences that contribute to the understanding and interpretation of the artwork, creating a direct connection between the art and its surroundings.

On the first day, festival-goers can experience innovative projections and a live contemporary dance performance inspired by rock concerts at ARTmania. The second day will feature the launch of “ARTmania in Context,” with a variety of artistic interventions, exhibitions, performances, live events, book launches, and talks, activating various city spaces and generating new cultural flows.

The third day of the festival, July 28, will be dedicated to music and interdisciplinary collaborations at Casa Altemberger – Museum of History. The lineup includes performances by Alternosfera (MD), REVOLTER (RO), Denorm (MD), and SPD (MD). Alternosfera, known for their explosive shows and large fan base, is a benchmark in the alternative rock scene. Denorm’s music blends synthwave/retrowave with metal elements, while SPD combines groove metal, hardcore, and deathcore influences. REVOLTER, a local band from Sibiu, brings a passion for metal music to the festival.
