According to some Romanian traditions, summer ends after August 15th. Others prefer to wait until the autumn equinox before they declare summer officially over, and are looking for better deals on their off-season travels, even throughout October. Kiwi.com, a leading travel-tech company, offers insights about where Romanians are traveling in the following months.
According to Kiwi.com’s data*, for September, Romanians prefer Italy, Spain, the UK, Greece, and France. The most popular destinations are London, Milan, Rome, Paris and Barcelona. For flights in September, they paid 127 euros, on average, 5% cheaper than the average price of tickets throughout summer.
For October, Romanians are heading to Italy, Spain, France, the UK, and Germany. The most popular cities are Rome, London, Paris, Milan, and Venice. They paid 97 euros for their tickets, on average, with prices 27% lower than the summer average (134 euros).
Kiwi.com data shows that reservations made for two passengers saw an increase in September and so far is the most popular for October possibly indicating that couples are looking for an affordable getaway. A study** conducted by STEM/MARK on behalf of Kiwi.com showed that for 44% of Romanians their significant other is their preferred travel companion.
Romanians will spend almost 4 days, on average, on their off-season vacations. 35% of them will spend 4 to 6 days away, 33% chose longer stays, of 1 to 2 weeks, while 27% chose city-breaks of up to 3 days.
As they are coming into their own as travelers, Gen Z-ers are also looking to the off-season for more affordable getaways. For September, their preferred destinations are Italy, Spain, Greece, France and the UK, while in October, they will be traveling to Italy, Spain, the UK, France and Belgium. So far, more Romanian Gen Z-ers chose to travel in September, rather than October, but they still have plenty of time to catch good deals on their off-season vacations and see the world.
