Oil and Gas producer Petrom has started commercial operations on the Dorobantu wind farm project with a total installed capacity of 45 MW. The park, located in the Dobrogea area, has 15 turbines with a capacity of 3 MW each.
Construction works on this project began in the second half of 2010 and were finalized this year, in July, with a total investment cost of EUR 90 million.
The green certificates allocated for this wind development will be used for covering the regulated quota of the electricity consumption of Petrom (approximately 1 TWh/year). The surplus will be traded on the Romanian market.
Petrom Group is the largest oil group in South East Europe. The company posted an EBIT result of EUR 578 million in the first semester of 2011.
The Economy Ministry holds a 20.64 percent share in Petrom, Fondul Proprietatea owns 20.11 percent; The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development controls 2 percent, while 6.2 percent is free float on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
