SAS and Polytechnic University of Bucharest launch a postgraduate program in data analytics

SAS, a global leader in advanced data analytics solutions, is launching a postgraduate continuous education program in partnership with Polytechnic University of Bucharest – UPB.

The decision is part of SAS’ sustained effort to create new capabilities in the advanced data analytics labour market, in the context of a shortage of approx. 25,000 roles in the field in 2022 alone. The programme will start with the new academic year and will have a limited number of spots.

The postgraduate program “Business Intelligence Systems Specialist” (BIS), developed by SAS and the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers of UPB, is aimed at IT and management professionals who want to specialize in a shorter term in business analytics and data analytics in order to implement specific data mining activities to increase efficiency within a company. Participants will acquire specific skills to carry out data collection, processing and interpretation activities, which involve both improving existing skills and acquiring new talents and competences in the proposed field.

“In a world where technology is becoming an essential component, integrated into the products and services we frequently use, which generate, process and use data in various forms, the University’s role is increasingly that of an integrated player in the life of the community. Through this postgraduate programme we want to provide those skills that, through the application of advanced data analytics, bring these products and services closer to the needs of society, the community and the business environment”, said Professor Monica Drăgoicea, Director of the BIS programme.

“The Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, which by number of students is the largest faculty of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, is continuously renewing its educational offer, aligning itself to the new requirements demanded by the Romanian labour market. Thus, in the current context, strongly affected by the recent events, the BIS programme comes to complete the study programmes with an absolutely necessary component, that of permanent, postgraduate training programmes in an extremely contemporary field of advanced data analysis”, added the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Mihnea Alexandru Moisescu.

The programme is organized into three levels of study, which will ensure: the acquisition of introductory knowledge, skills and abilities in the field, the understanding of basic concepts, the development of skills in analyzing and visualizing data from various sources, the understanding of data prediction and modelling methods, as well as dealing with hidden information in unstructured data. The course content is structured taking into account real-world requirements for the preparation of highly skilled professionals capable of taking the lead in complex data analysis projects from a managerial perspective.

The initiative to launch this program comes as a result of SAS’ objective to contribute to the development of a highly qualified workforce in Romania, namely to reach 5,000 specialists in advanced data analysis by 2025.
