Sundance Channel, initially launched by Hollywood actor Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance independent film festival, and currently owned by AMC/ Sundance Channel Global, will be launched in Romania, being distributed by telecom provider UPC on the platform DTH Focus Sat.
Sundance Channel broadcasts a large range of independent films, documentaries and original programs.
The launch in Romania is part of a number of new deals between AMC/Sundance Channel Global and Liberty Global, as announced by the website broadbandtvnews.com
“Additional carriage has also been secured in Hungary, where Sundance Channel will be distributed via cable by UPC. It has been carried by UPC’s DTH platform in the country (UPC Direct) since last year and is also available on UPC’s Freesat in the Czech Republic and Slovakia,” says the website.
UPC ended 2011 with a total number of 1,142,600 clients of digital, analogue and satellite TV – DTH, a 2 percent growth as compared to the previous quarter. Focus Sat, the DTH division of UPC Romania, closed 2011 with a total of 282,800 subscriptions.
