Newsroom 02/03/2020 | 15:46

For the first time in history, Democrats Abroad Romania will organize the first local Primary voting center for the US Presidential elections, as part of a worldwide week-long voting period kicking off on March 3rd.

“This year’s elections are of vital importance for the future of the United States and have worldwide implications. With this in mind, we have taken on a huge organizational effort to organize Primary elections for the first time in Romania, while ensuring maximum security conditions,” says Radu Florescu, Committee Country Chair of Democrats Abroad Romania. “This is also part of the awareness campaign regarding voting importance. We estimate that there are nearly nine million American currently living outside the US, with only 10% registered for remote voting. Our objective is to increase this rate by 10 – 15%, and the Presidential elections are a milestone in this respect, as they represent by far the most important electoral ballot.”

The Global Presidential Primary is a week-long voting period, kicking off on March 3, Super Tuesday! Democrats Abroad members will be able to participate in the official party-run presidential primary, with more than 220 events in 45 countries around the world, being held. Don’t miss your chance to vote in person in Romania this presidential year!

The Democrats Abroad Romania will host two 2020 Global Presidential Primary:

-Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Barka Safron, Strada Aviator Maior Stefan Sanatescu 1, Bucharest from 15:00-21:00

-Sunday, March 7, 2020 at Barka Safron, Strada Aviator Maior Stefan Sanatescu 1, Bucharest from 15:00 21:00

Are you eligible?

If you’re a Democrat Abroad member and you haven’t voted (or plan to vote) in any other 2020 state presidential primary/caucus, you’re eligible to vote in the Global Presidential Primary.

Can’t join a voting event in person?

If you can’t join us at our events in Romania, you can vote remotely. Look for your primary ballot in your inbox on February 18, or download it from democratsabroad.org starting on Feb 18, as well.

Do votes in the GPP count? Why should you participate in the GPP instead of voting in your state’s presidential primary?

Yes, your vote counts! In fact, you could even say that votes in the GPP count even more. Tens of thousands of people will participate in the global primary, but millions will vote in your home state. That means that your vote in the Global Presidential Primary is more powerful than voting in the California primary. In fact, it’s 4 times more powerful!

Voting in California. Can you vote in the Global Presidential Primary and the California primary?

You can only vote in a presidential primary once. If you vote in the global primary and want to vote in California for the down-ballot primary races (like for your congressperson), you can! Just skip the presidential section on your California ballot.
