Romania to join the euro zone in 2015

Newsroom 01/11/2011 | 15:10

Romania maintains the target of joining the euro for 2015 on the basis that reforms and domestic macroeconomic policies will be implemented. This was the main conclusion drawn from the interministerial committee that met yesterday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Emil Boc. However, the adoption of the unique euro currency by Romania is dependant on the economic developments at European and global level.

The committee also discussed the progress in fulfilling the nominal convergence criteria in the context of recent economic developments in the euro area and the recently approved expansion of the EFSF (European Financial Stability Facility).

The interministerial committee meetings are held quarterly and reunite the Prime Minister, ministers of the Romanian Government, the Governor and board members of the Central Bank and leaders of trade union confederations.
