Romania ranks 62nd in a ranking of economic freedom carried out by Heritage Foundation in partnership with Wall Street Journal, which includes overall 179 states.
Even though it was placed before Poland or France, Romania comes after neighboring countries such as Hungary or Bulgaria.
Romania climbed one position since last year, to the 62nd place, but its score has shrunk by 0.3 percent to 64.4 points, which reflects the high impact of corruption, deteriorating management of state expenses, and the difficulty to run a business here.
Among European states, Romania ranks the 28th out of 43 countries under scrutiny.
Hong Kong ranks on the first place in the ranking with 89.9 points. Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland are also at the top.
The economic freedom index was calculated taking into consideration several factors such as freedom from corruption, governmental expenses, freedom in business, monetary freedom, commercial freedom, fiscal freedom, the labor market, property rights, financial freedom and investment freedom.
