Gary Cohn, a key economic adviser for US President Donald Trump, has announced his resignation, according to the BBC.
Gary Cohn is the former president of Goldman Sachs, and helped pass his tax reform a few months ago.
Cohn did not explain the reasons for his resignation, but it is believed that Cohn was angered by Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on aluminium and steel imports, and he had differences on the issue not only with the president, but also with trade adviser Peter Navarro and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
A White House official said that Cohn had been discussing his exit with Trump for several weeks.
BBC explains that Gary Cohn was in an unusual position, as he was known to lean Democrat, not Republican, and had a very globalist view of economics while Trump is headed towards economic nationalism and protectionism.
His resignation is the latest in a series of departures by high-profile members of the administration.
