Romanian PM Grindeanu said the nominations for the Minister of Justice will be announced o Wednesday. According to Grindeanu, it was „very likely” that the new minister could be someone from outside the ruling coalition.
„On Wednesday we will come with these proposals to te Ministry of Justice. There is the option to be someone who is not a politician, but there is also the option to be a member of the ruling coalition. Today and tomorrow I will have meetings with the people I consider eligible to occupy this position,” Grindeanu said at the Palace of Parliament.
Minister Florin Iordache resigned on February 9, after Romanians rallied across the country to protest against the newly introduced legislation. Ordinance 13/2017, which was passed by the Grindeanu Government on 31 January, partially decriminalized abuse of office, raising concerns regarding the countrys commitment to fighting corruption. “I decided to submit my resignation from the position of Minister of Justice,” Iordache told the press. He did not provide a reason for the move. Instead, he said all initiatives he was involved in were “legal and constitutional.”
