The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) has announced on Tuesday that five Romanian citizens have died in the powerful earthquake that rocked central Italy on Wednesday morning.
The MAE added that 11 Romanians have been reported missing and authorities are working to find them. Another four Romanians have been injured.
“The mobile consular team is still working in coordination with Italian authorities to find if there are other Romanian citizens among the victims,” said the institution.
Italian authorities reported at least 247 deaths after the 6.2 magnitude quake hit the country.
Romanian PM Dacian Ciolos and president Klaus Iohannis have expressed their condolences in a message to the families of those who were killed in this natural disaster.

The Ministry expressed its condolences to families of Romanians that perished in the quake.
