WB: Romania makes slow progress in business ease

However, the country has made important progress in the past year in easing access to loans, found the WB researchers, while the worst performance was in improving employment techniques. The WB classification placed Romania 49th among countries ranked by friendly business environment.
The report listed Egypt, Croatia, Ghana, Georgia, Columbia and Bulgaria as positive examples. Globally, the researchers found that by far the fastest reforms were in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, which, as a region, surpassed East Asia this year in the ease of doing business. “Eastern Europe has witnessed a boom in new business entries, and many of the new companies are becoming global leaders,” said Simeon Djankov, the lead author of the report. The previous WB report cited Romania as a top reformer in Europe and second overall in modernizing its business environment, after frontrunner Georgia.
