Romanian director Alexandru Tocilescu dies

Romanian director Alexandru Tocilescu passed away at the age of 65.

Tocilescu died at the Floreasca emergency hospital due to an overdose of medication that was prescribed to him for heart problems,  according to Mediafax newswire, which quotes medical sources.

Born on July 27, 1946, Alexandru Tocilescu is one of the most reputed Romanian theater directors, having stages numerous plays, among which A Day From the Life of NIcolae Ceausescu, Elizaveta Bam, The Red Comedy, Eduard the 3rd, The End of the Game.

Although primarily known as a theater director, Tocilescu also directed several films such as The Last Halt in Paradise (2002) or The Sadness of a Salesman of Empty Bottles (1981).

In 1999 he was awarded the UNITER prize for the best theater show, having staged The Lost Letter by I.L. Caragiale at the National Theater in Bucharest. In 2002, Tocilescu was awarded the UNITER prize for the entire career.

In July, his name was included in the Romanian Walk of Fame in Bucharest.
