The park has a surface of 8,000 sqm. It was built in the 1950s but has not been worked on since. The environmental project has the support of the Sector 1 City Hall which will pave the alleys around the park and will also provide new benches. The Media Monitoring Agency, which is also taking part in the project, donated 32 trees to the park. “The difference between the 11 sqm of green space for each Bucharest citizen and the 26 sqm stipulated by the European norms is reflected in the toxic air we breathe day after day,” said Andrei Chiliman, the Bucharest Sector 1 mayor. Over 100 volunteers – employees from the companies, partnering institutions and journalists – planted approximately 100 trees in the park on November 7. Among the volunteers were Mona Nicolici, CSR communication manager for Petrom; Liliana Solomon, CEO of Vodafone; Steven van Groeningen, CEO of Raiffeisen Bank; Mircea Toma, president of the Media Monitoring Agency; Robin Barnett, the British Ambassador to Romania; and journalists Corina Dragotescu and Dragos Bucurenci. This partnership opportunity appeared with the start of the program “Adopt a Green Space” initiated by the Sector 1 City Hall, a civic campaign to encourage Bucharest citizens and the private business community to support Sector 1 City Hall's environmental protection projects. The project started on November 4 in the parks of the Pajura neighborhood where, with the help of the Media Monitoring Agency, 200 trees were planted.
