The National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) and the Labour Inspection launch Operation Cronos, to be carried out between June 16 – September 23.
Anti-fraud inspectors with ANAF and representatives of the Labour Inspection, a specialized body in the central public administration subordinated to the Ministry of Labour, will carry out checks to prevent illegal and unreported work.
According to the initiators, the operation will target mainly companies operating in the fields of construction, the apparel industry, safety and security, cleaning, catering, forestry, transport, commerce and other sectors that are likely to employ illegal workers or to under-report wages.
Given that, investigators argue, a large proportion of fictitious purchases of goods and services with impact on the VAT and the corporation tax are often used to hide amounts that are used in reality to pay wages, anti-fraud inspectors will focus on companies active in the above-mentioned sectors.
Operative actions will focus on informing tax payers, companies and employees on their legal obligations, the risks they are exposed to and the fines and sanctions applicable in the field.
