Some 50,000 employees from the local restaurant industry risk loosing their jobs since more than half of Romanian restaurants are loss making, said Mohammad Murad, the president of the Romanian Federation of Tourism Employers (FPTR).
“At least 50 percent of local restaurants are not profitable. There are 50,000 employees facing difficulties. By comparison, Oltchim has only 3,000 employees,” he said.
Hiking prices is not a solution as decreasing purchasing power is the main reason for this situation, he said.
The industry needs the government’s support and following the elections this December, FPTR representatives will present their demands to the future government, Murad added. These demands are the implementation of holiday vouchers and the reduction of VAT from 24 percent to 9 percent.
