Retailer Billa will open two supermarkets this Thursday in Slatina and Mangalia, thus taking its national network to 70 units. The two stores have sales surfaces of 918 sqm and 857sqm respectively.
“2012 proves to be a very good year for us: we have reached 70 stores on the local market after last week we opened other units. We will continue to expand until the end of the year and also in 2013 (…),” said Sorana Georgia, general manager of BillaRomania.
At the end of 2011 the company was operating 61 supermarkets countrywide, six of which were opened that year. Billa is part of German Rewe Group which also runs locally the Penny and Penny XXL discount stores.
The company’s turnover amounted to RON 1.14 billion (approximately EUR 270 million) in 2011, down RON 80 million (approximately EUR 19 million) y-o-y, according to data from the Ministry of Finance.
