Romania is the first country in the Orange Group to launch 5G services, but Orange is the third telecom operator in the country to launch 5G services. The operator waited until it had the best 5G services before launching commercial and now it has covered Bucharest, Cuj-Napoca and Iasi.

Orange Romania customers can enjoy access to the Orange 5G network, available in some areas of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Iasi. They will benefit from such Internet speeds up to 1.2 Gbps on mobile. The connectivity experience is complemented by the flexibility brought by Number Share service, a long awaited first in Romania, available only to Orange customers.

5G marks the next major evolution of mobile networks, designed to support new services in an increasingly connected world. With this launch, Orange Romania customers become the first in the Orange group to benefit from the benefits of 5G technology.

Currently, the Orange 5G network is available to customers in three cities, offering maximum download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps and average speeds of 600 Mbps, capable of providing users with an experience similar to that offered by fiber optic internet service.

5G brings not only higher speeds than existing technologies, but also low latencies. These are translated by an extremely low network response time, milliseconds level and make it possible for autonomous machines to be able to communicate with each other in real time, or to broadcast a live concert through VR glasses.

For Orange, this stage of 5G evolution is the result of a series of tests conducted with strategic partners. The company is the only local operator involved in the standardization of this technology in four major European projects, thus contributing to the development and regulation of 5G technology.

Technologies and services offered exclusively to Orange customers

To enhance the 5G experience, Orange proposes to users in Romania a special package of 5G services and devices. It includes access to the highest 5G speed in Romania, unlimited internet traffic, 9.33 GB in mobile EEA roaming, unlimited voice calls and SMS nationally and in EEA roaming. To these are added access to quality content through the Deezer music service and the Family HD Go mobile TV package, the entire package being available for 25 euros per month. In addition, the flagship phone Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, the first Samsung 5G phone launched in Romania, is available exclusively to Orange, in monthly rates of 47 euros.

In the same package, customers can benefit from increased connectivity with the Number Share service, which Orange launches for the first time in Romania alongside the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 LTE watch. The Number Share service allows customers to use the same phone number on multiple devices, without requiring a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection. Thus, they have considerable flexibility in choosing the device on which they communicate: smartphone or smartwatch. Through them, customers can access the contacts book, initiate and receive calls or use mobile data directly from the watch, totally independent of the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 LTE watch is available exclusively in the Orange offer, with a monthly rate of 14 euros, purchased with the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. Also, this service can be activated along with any Orange subscription for individuals, at a price of 2 euros per month.

The Number Share service is added to other innovations available only on the Orange network: the eSIM service, which allows customers to connect to the Orange mobile network without the need for a physical SIM card and the HD Voice Plus service that greatly improves the quality of the calls.

“By launching 5G today, we are making an important step towards the next generation of mobile networks and services of the future. The Orange 5G commercial network is the result of a series of tests conducted with strategic partners, as well as of the constant investments made by Orange Romania in infrastructure. Thus, we offer our customers the highest 5G speed in Romania and, exclusively, top services – Number Share, eSIM and HD Voice Plus, which bring a complete connectivity experience,” said Liudmila Climoc, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Romania.
