RoTLD, the Romanian web domain registry (for .ro websites) announced that starting today, June 1, the first .ro domains that were registered before March 1, 2013, will expire if their owners haven’t paid the annual maintenance fee on time.

“Domains registered before March 2013 will be programmed for automatic deletion after 90 days. In this period, these websites will be offline, and in order to bring them back online their owners will be need to renew their subscription,” says RoLTD in a statement.

Renewal of .ro domains can be done for one to ten years. The annual maintenance fee is EUR 6, excluding VAT. RoLTD claims that the contract for .ro domains never included the phrase “domains purchased for life”.
