Streaming video services usage is on the rise, growing 25 percent in the last 6 months. While in November 2018 42 percent of Romanian internet users were watching video streaming to relax in their spare time, the percentage reaches 52 percent today, according to “Digital Evolution: Connected Consumer Monitor” quantitative study (national sample of 1,061 respondents, Internet users, 18-65 years), conducted by EXACT Business Solutions.
Internet users spend daily between 1-2 hours to watch movies and TV series, depending on the online streaming platform you choose. With this growth, it is also noted the increased use of smart TV when it comes to how to access the Internet. Thus, at present, 36 percent of Romanian Internet users use smart TV on a monthly basis to watch streaming services.
“Looking at the figures recorded one and a half years ago (the first wave of the Digital Evolution: Connected Consumer Monitor study, conducted in November 2017), when only 24 percent of the smartphones used smart TV, we find that in 18 months, the usage rate of this device has enjoyed spectacular growth of 50 percent,” said Julien Zidaru, Managing Partner of EXACT Business Solutions.
The number of minutes allocated daily to social networks decreases
The upward trend observed with the use of video streaming services and correlated with the most appropriate device for accessing them (Smart TV), determines changes in the Romanian online behavior: increases the number of minutes allocated daily to streaming platforms and decreases the number of spent on social networks. The main social networks are currently experiencing a 20-minute daily decrease compared to the figures analyzed in November 2017.
The incidence of the use of social networks does not change, the Romanians continue to access them daily, the only change being the decrease in the average daily amount allocated.
The information is part of the fourth wave of the Digital Evolution: Connected Consumer Monitor study conducted by EXACT Business Solutions in May 2019. The research universe was represented by people aged 18 to 65, in urban and rural areas and internet users. The volume of the sample was 1061 respondents. They were selected from the EXACT Business Solutions panel, containing 50,000 respondents, the online questionnaire being administered.
