This year, the event will include a retrospective dedicated to French director Maurice Pialat, selected five times for the Cannes competition and winner of the Palme d’Or for the movie Sous le soleil du Satan (Under the Sun of Satan). Since 2010, Les Films de Cannes a Bucharest has brought the magic of the most prestigious film festival to the Romanian capital, thanks to director Cristian Mungiu and Thierry Frémaux, the general delegate of the Cannes Festival.

Synopsis: The movie follows a week in the life of Llewyn Davis, a young folk singer navigating the Greenwich village folk scene of 1961. The main character, played by Oscar Isaac, finds himself at a crossroads, living at the mercy of both friends and strangers, and scavenging for work.
Omar

Synopsis: Omar is accustomed to dodging surveillance bullets to cross the separation wall to visit his secret love Nadia. But occupied Palestine knows neither simple love nor clear-cut war.
On the other side of the wall, the sensitive young baker becomes a freedom fighter who must face painful choices about life and manhood. When Omar is captured after a deadly act of resistance, he become embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game with the military police.
Suspicion and betrayal jeopardize his longtime trust of accomplices and childhood friends Amjad and Tarek, Nadia’s militant brother. Omar’s feelings quickly become as torn as the Palestinian landscape.
Manuscripts Don’t Burn
directed by Mohammad Rasoulof
Award: FIPRESCI distinction
Synopsis: Shot in Iran without permission, the film bravely defies Rasoulof’s 20-year ban on making films or traveling outside his homeland. Khosrow and Morteza set out on a mission to kill. The assassination ought to look like a suicide. At the last minute, however, they are forced to change their plans.
