The General Council of the Bucharest City Hall will analyze on Friday the option of acquiring 6 hectares of land in the Romanian capital for the development of a social housing project.

The land is located in the Industriilor area in the third district of the city. Over 500 apartments could be built here.

Bucharest mayor Gabriela Firea said recently that the municipality has 3,000 requests for social housing unsolved at this moment.

The municipality plans to buy the land that belongs to one of the insolvent firms of former businessman Vasile Turcu, who passed away last year.

The land was put on for tender last year at a price of around EUR 4.3 million.
