Workspace Studio, specialised in fitout solutions and human-centric, ergonomically designed office furniture and the sole partner of Herman Miller in Romania conducted office design projects worth EUR 5.3 million in 2018 – a 30 percent growth compared to the previous year.

The factors that contributed to the higher-than-expected growth for Workspace Studio last year were the high interest in Herman Miller chairs, a higher demand for interior design and construction works, the need for a more efficient use of space and employers’ desire to stand out on the market through the design of their offices.

“The most challenging projects are integrated design projects, which generate about 65 percent of Workspace Studio’s turnover. In such projects, fitout, installations, decorations and furniture must be completed very rapidly and at a high performance. Maintaining the level of quality and customer service in these projects was our biggest achievement of last year,” said Horatiu Didea, Managing Partner at Workspace Studio.

Over 80 percent of projects in 2018 were carried out for clients in the IT and industrial sectors, who are interested in ergonomics and sustainable furniture. Workspace Studio’s biggest project in 2018 was worth EUR 850,000.

“The premium office design market in Romania is growing, and the interest for ergonomic solutiosn and human-centric offices is developing in most sectors, but most notably in the Services sector. As stated before, the IT sector set the tone for the evolution of offices and continues to be the most important segment for our business. Other fields are following this trend and are increasingly going towards workspaces that support productivity, creativity and innovation. A signal in this sense is the growing interest in acoustic solutions and lounge furniture we saw last year,” Didea added.

The average investment in a work post designed by Workspace Studio in 2018 was EUR 1,000/employee, including the chair, the office and their share of the common areas like meeting rooms and coworking, connection and relaxation areas. The most expensive work posts sold last year cost EUR 8,000/employee.

“Compared to other countries, the Romanian market has paradoxical features. For example, the design budget is 30-50 percent smaller than it is in other countries, even when it comes to the same multinational companies. At the same time, the delivery speed demanded in Romania is almost double compared to countries like the US or France,” said Horatiu Didea.

Herman Miller chairs as a growth engine

In 2018, Workspace Studio became an Authorized Accredited Partner of international office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller. Sales of ergonomic Herman Miller chairs generate 30 percent of the company’s revenues. These chairs are well-known around the world for their quality, ergonomics, technological innovations and 12-year warranty.

Workspace Studio sold over 3,600 Herman Miller chairs in Romania – the most popular models were Sayl, Aeron and Mirra.

For 2019, Workspace Studio estimates a 10 percent growth and a turnover of almost EUR 6 million.
