The total value of the projects implemented by the Vodafone Foundation this year is in excess of EUR 2 million.

The foundation also announced today a new administration board which now includes public figures outside the company. Princess Marina Sturdza was appointed honorific president, while Martin Harris, the UK ambassador to Romania and Condelina Kilikidis, governmental expert are members. The board also includes Vodafone representatives Florina Tanase, senior director regulatory, legal and corporate affairs, Andres Vicente, CCO, enterprise business unit, Lidia Solomon, director corporate communications and Elena Serban, director of the Vodafone Foundation.

In Romania, the Vodafone Foundation was founded in 1998 and has invested until 2012 EUR 13 million in social projects, having launched more than 600 programs in partnership with 400 NGOs in areas such as healthcare, education, the prevention of family abandonment, programs for young people with disabilities and for the elderly.

“I have never before worked with a company, always with charities, but I decided to undertake this because I have very long experience in what Vodafone Foundation has accomplished and we frequently found ourselves supporting the same causes. So, on the strength of really believing that I have a mandate to do something serious, I accepted with pleasure,” Princess Sturdza told BR.

She also explained: “I will maintain all of the personal commitments I already have, many of them interestingly parallel the foundation’s commitments. But I am always approached by many people sometimes with desperate situations and I hope to both implicate myself personally and perhaps the foundation, when appropriate. The foundation has specific goals such as the elderly, education, people in real economic distress, people with special needs, so within that framework I am sure we will find enough to work on together.”
