The American ambassador in Romania, Hans Klemm, says that the country sends a “dangerous message” to the US, to the Romanian international partners and citizens when a prosecuted mayor wins the elections.
Klemm says that “Romanian talked. They chose the candidate the they like most. It is hard to understand the way they thought, but now the elected ones have the chance to do their best for the voters,” according to Agerpres newswire.
He added that the political parties should focus on the parliamentarian elections from November and that he would encourage the parties to select the candidates that they want to represent the Romania of the future.
In his view, the legal issues of the elected emphasize a context in which the Anti-Corruption National Office (DNA) is an example of fight against corruption in the region. Last week he was claiming that Romania became leader in the fight against corruption and that other countries ask for assistance from Romania because of its success.
Also, last week he was encouraging Romanians not to vote for candidates prosecuted for corruption and he was declaring that the election campaign is very important for the future of Romania.
