The world has 6,900 ultra-rich people, with fortunes over USD 500 million, but half of them live in four countries – US, China, Germany and Japan -, according to the “Wealth Report 2018” released by Knight Frank. Romania, with its 20 half-billionaires in 2017, ranks 11th in Europe and among the first 40 countries in the world.
The top 10 countries ranked in order of the number of people with more than USD 500 million in personal wealth, considered the captains of global capitalism, are:
1. United States: 1,830 people
2. China (including Hong Kong): 810 people
3. Germany: 430 people
4. Japan: 390 people
5. Canada: 270 people
6. Switzerland: 250 people
7. France: 230 people
8. Russia: 220 people
9. UK: 220 people
10. India: 200 people
Romania, with 20 people with more than USD 500 million in personal wealth, ranked 11th in 2017 in Europe (excluding former Soviet Union-countries).
The Wealth Report 2018 also shows that Romania had 3,720 multi-millionaires (wealth over USD 5 million) and 240 ultra-wealthy (over USD 50 million) in 2017, up from 2,930 multi-millionaires and 190 ultra-wealthy in 2012.
Last year, the world had 2.5 million multi-millionaires and almost 130,000 ultra-wealthy.
Knight Frank estimates Romania will be home for 5,630 multi-millionaires, 360 ultra-wealthy and 20 half-billionaires in 2022.
