Dutch producer Akzo Nobel’s purchase of paint producer Fabryo, founded by Romanian entreprenur Daniel Guzu, from Oresa Ventures, was finalized today. The transaction was estimated at EUR 100 million.

Deloitte Romania’s Corporate Finance practice has advised the shareholders of Fabryo, the leading Romanian decorative coatings manufacturer, in the successful sale of the shares to Akzo Nobel. The transaction was completed today, after receiving regulatory approvals.

Deloitte’s M&A team advised the sellers, investment firm Oresa with Swedish roots and two minority shareholders, throughout the transaction process.

With EUR 46 million in sales and an EUR 8 million EBITDA in 2016, Fabryo is the only player on the Romanian market with a leading product portfolio for both consumer and professional segments. Savana, Apla and Innenweiss are among its brands. The company operates the largest decorative coatings production facility in SEE Europe and has national coverage through six distribution centers and the largest fleet of tinting machines on the local market.

Akzo Nobel is the second largest global paints and coatings company and the European market leader. Following the transaction, the company has secured the number one position on the Romanian decorative coatings market, one of the fastest growing in the region.

“This acquisition gives AkzoNobel the leading position in a rapidly growing market. Fabryo had record increases in both revenue and profitability. We are pleased to add top brands like Savana, APLA and InnenWeiss to our portfolio,” said Thierry Vanlancker, CEO of AkzoNobel.

The Dutch group, also present in Romania through Akzo Nobel Coatings, had a turnover of RON 43 million in 2016, a net profit of RON 5.2 million and 17 employees. Rumors about its takeover of a paint producer have existed since 2010.
