The second reactor of Cernavoda power plant was disconnected yersterday due to a human error

One of the two units of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant was disconnected from the network on Thursday due to a Transelectrica staff error.

“On Thursday, August 16, at 18:57, during the maneuver of recommissioning with the 400 kV Cernavoda-Constanta North Power Plant at which maintenance works were carried out, the staff at the Cernavoda station performed an erroneous maneuver, which led to disconnection of the Cernavoda NPP Unit 2. As a result of the incident, Unit 2 of NPP did not trigger, but was isolated on internal services. At this time the conditions for putting Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 into operation with the National Electric Power System are being prepared in parallel. We report that the incident had no impact on nuclear safety, facilities and personnel. It also did not affect the electricity supply to consumers,” Transelectrica’s officials stated.

According to Nuclearelectrica, the disconnection had no adverse impact on Unit 2 nuclear installations, so no impact on nuclear safety. Unit 2 CNE Cernavoda was reconnected to the NPS and will restore its nominal power last night.
