Romanians' most popular destinations for New Year's holidays are London and Rome

Reservations made by Romanians for New Year holidays started this year as early, as of February, according to data provided by Vola.ro, the largest online travel agency in Romania.

The Romanians who are still thinking about booking the New Year’s Eve are available in October to book their holidays at attractive prices. New Year’s Eve holidays are mostly booked by couples, 45 percent of Romanians prefer to spend the night with the loved ones. About 30 percent of Romanians have booked holidays for one person, and in groups they travel 10 percent.

The most numerous group that bought a New Year holiday through Vola.ro is made up of nine people, the destination being Milan.

The average vacation period reserved for the New Year’s party is 6-7 nights, approximately 35 percent of the bookings made during the year by Vola.ro. In the case of overnight stays (32 percent), one can observe the trend of the Romans to spend the beginning of the year with relatives living abroad.

The most popular destinations in this case are London and Rome, cities recognized for the large Romanian communities. Also, most Romanians avoid city breaks for New Year’s Eve (only 8 percent of reservations).

”We recommend all our tourists who want to travel New Year’s Eve to reserve their flights at least 2 months before the trip. In this way they can take advantage of lower prices or promotional periods of airlines, when flights are up to 40% cheaper. As we approach New Year’s Eve, the number of seats available on New Year’s New Year’s departure and return flights drops and the price can grow up to 300%, ”said Claudia Tocila, marketing manager, Vola.ro.

Among the destinations most requested by the Romans during the New Year’s Eve are London, Rome, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Dubai.

Preferences include exotic and intercontinental destinations such as Phuket, Bangkok, Singapore, Maldives, Zanzibar, Buenos Aires, New York. The price of air tickets for New Year starts at EUR 100/person.

The average price for a flight to Rome is about 100 euros (low cost, no luggage), EUR 140 for London and about EUR 200 for Barcelona. Those who prefer to spend their sun and beach holidays will pay an average of EUR 700 for a stay in Dubai (low-cost flight without baggage) and for a stay in Bangkok, the cost is about EUR 1,000 (company flight line, baggage included).
