Government allocates EUR 1 billion to finance Culture Ministry’s acquisition of historical monuments

The government approved today by emergency ordinance the allocation of EUR 1 billion to finance the Culture Ministry’s Culture budget for multi-annual funding contracts. The objectives of the program include the acquisition of historical monuments and movable cultural assets, restoration and enhancement of historical monuments or the building of cultural objectives.

Beneficiaries of the Program are the central public administration authorities, including the Ministry of Culture, as well as the subordinated institutions, regardless of the funding system, and the local public administration authorities.

The program has as a general purpose the financing of the following categories of investment expenses:

  • purchase of immovable historical monuments and movable cultural goods classified by the exercise of the preemptive right of the state, according to the law;
  • the building of cultural objectives, representing cultural buildings or cultural, information and permanent education, cultural services of public utility, with the role of social cohesion and access to information;
  • carrying out interventions, rehabilitation and/or modernization, consolidation, restoration and valorisation of historical monuments, on the protection of historical monuments, with subsequent amendments and completions, included in the List of Historical Monuments;
  • carrying out interventions, rehabilitation and / or upgrading, consolidating, restoring and capitalizing on cultural objectives such as libraries, museums, cultural centers, performances or concerts, and other cultural purposes.
