Summer offers from CFR Calatori, the least competitive rail company

National railway company CFR Calatori is trying to regain a chunk of the client segment it has lost over the past few years, but their offers for train journeys are far from competitive. The fact that the trains are dirty and poorly equipped and many of them don’t have air conditioning, doesn’t fool almost anyone anymore.

CFR Calatori‘s latest attempt to be competitive on the increasingly flexible transportation market was to launch 40 trains, called the Sun Trains, on all the main routes between the major Romanian cities.

The Sun Trains were released in previous summers as well, and this year they will re-enter circulation at the end of the week, with more than 40 liners providing direct connections across the country with Black Sea and Danube Delta resorts daily, for almost three months.

In order for all regions of the country to be connected with the most popular summer destinations, 11 direct trains (and returns) from the main cities will reach Constanta/Mangalia, and 16 trains (and returns) will connect the capital with the coast and return, 7 Mangalia, with the rest stopping in Constanta.

The journey time between Bucharest and Constanta for non-stop IR trains is 1 hour and 58 minutes.

“There will be frequent train connections between Constanta and Mangalia, so all the seaside resorts will be served. The InterRegio trains are equipped with air conditioning systems and the long-distance trains also have sleeping cars,” CFR Calatori says.

Also, two direct trains will connect Bucharest North – Tulcea City daily, in order to facilitate access to the Danube Delta for tourists. Every day, two trains (and returns) will continue to travel between Medgidia and Tulcea.

According to the company, train tickets are accessible to all through a wide range of commercial offers.

The cost of a Bucharest – Constanta trip, without any discount offer, is RON 59.6 for IR trains. There is a 10 percent discount for a return ticket, and if the ticket is purchased online, an additional 5 percent discount is added. Those who buy tickets at least 21 days in advance get a 25 percent discount. With the Minigrup 2-5 offer, the discounts can reach 30 percent if the purchase is made online,” claims CFR Calatori.

In addition, people with disabilities will be able to travel more easily by train to and from the seaside, benefiting from free travel assistance from CFR Calatori (reservation of special seats, escort in the station, assistance in ascending / descending to / from train and assistance on board the train).
