Study: Half of the Romanian youngsters want to turn their current job into a career

Even over half of the representatives of the Millennials generation are saying that they are happy with their workplace, only 10 percent will recommend it to other persons. All the pieces of information are part of a study made by iSense Solutions for the Lowe Group, on the Bold by Lowe Group platform.

Furthermore, only half of the youngsters want to develop a career at their current job.

„Many of the companies that activate on this moment on our market, no matter their business industry are going through tough recruitment and youngsters’ retention challenges, because they don’t know how to approach them and communicate with them. We proposed ourselves, in the second stage of Bold by Lowe Group series, to identify the attitudes, expectations, aspirations and decisions of the Millennials’ generation on the professional sight in order to help the clients develop in an efficient and adequate manner the employer brand,” said Hortensia Nastase, vice-president Creative Services within Lowe Group Romania.

The study analyzes two age categories that are forming the Millennials generation, under and over 25 years old, and offers a comparison between them and the total of persons with ages between 18 and 65 years old, employed or looking for a job. Only 40 percent of those aged 18-25 and 49 percent in the 26-34 age bracket work in the field that they prepared for in school.

The job fields that are popular among Millennials include food, commerce, restaurants, sales and tourism, but more of them are interested in the IT, telecommunications, management, marketing and communication fields.

„The Millennials are more exigent with the employer and less attached by their job. They are searching for informations about the campaign that is asking for them to the interview, about the possible future manager. Now, more than ever, is important for the companies to manage their employer image and to invest in motivational and fidelity programs,” added Traian Nastase, managing partner of iSense Solutions.

The youngsters with the age between 18 and 25 like to socialize at their workplace. Therefore, they consider that they are more sociable at the workplace (80 percent versus 71 percent of all employees), but less sociable in the everyday life (67 percent vs. 71 percent total employees).

The main factors that determine them to accept a job are the program (48 percent in both age categories) and the salary (for 39 percent in the 18-25 age period and for 42 percent in the 26-34 age band).

Millennials of 18-25 years old work, in average, 8,3 hours a day to have a monthly average salary of RON 1,388, but they want to get almost RON 1,408 RON more, while the youngsters in the category 26-34 work, in average, 8,7 hours a day, earning RON 1,974 RON a month and they would like almost RON 1,342 more.

In change, only 18 percent of those who are on the 26-34 years old category, respectively 34 percent of those in the 18-25 years old category are happy with the raise of their salaries in the last 12 months.

When it comes to the searched benefits, Millennials don’t defer from the other generations, the holidays’, vacations’ bonuses and 13th salary being in the top of the preferences.

Millennials are also close to the other generations when it comes to the professional objectives. The study shows that the safety of the workplace, big incomes and the professional development are in the ranking of their priorities.

At the same time, they are more interested in the management positions (29 percent from the 18-25 category, 28 percent in the 26-34 category) and in their own businesses, that offer them more freedom (32 percent and 31 percent, respectively).
