WTA No 1 Simona Halep will start her bid for the second Grand Slam of her career at Wimbledon, after her Paris success last month. The Romanian player will face Japan’s Kurumi Nara, the world’s No 91 on Tuesday in her first round match.

The Romanian player has not played any official matches since winning Roland Garros. Therefore, tomorrow’s match will be her first on grass. Nevertheless, Halep has trained constantly since arriving in Wimbledon ten days before the start of the tournament.

“I didn’t expect a big change. Of course, inside of myself it’s a change because I’m really happy that I was able to break that barrier,” she told journalists on Media Day at Wimbledon on her Paris win.

“The pressure is off. The dream came true. So I don’t stress myself anymore with that Grand Slam thing. It’s nice to be in this position. It gives me just happy moments, nothing else,” she added.

“Life is the same, everybody’s the same, I am the same,” Halepexplained. “I’m here ready to go ahead. I’m really looking forward to start it. I don’t know how it’s going to be, this tournament. I smile a lot. I feel happy. I’m happy to be back on court.”

“I was dreaming [to win Roland Garros]. I did it. Now I have already set another goal. I would love to have an Olympic medal. So my focus is on that,” she said.
