Supreme Court judges have decided to require state institutions to pay damages to civilians for events in the 1990 Mineriad case, including the Finance Ministry, the Internal Affairs Ministry, the Romanian Information Service, the General Prosecutor’s office, the government, the Gendarmerie, the Defense Ministry, the Economy Ministry and the Police Academy.

The decision states that the institutions will pay civil damages to the victims of the Mineraid. The next court dates have been set for March 5, 6 and 7.

Military prosecutors of the Military Courts Section of the Supreme Court finalized their investigation in the Mineriad case in June 2017 and decided to indict 14 people in the case, including former president Ion Iliescu and former prime minister Petre Roman.

Prosecutors claim they have evidence that the persons had organized and directly coordinated the attack against civilians. Four people were shot and killed, three were injured by gunshot, 1,269 suffered physical or psychological injuries and 1,242 were unjustly detained.
