French energy management company Schneider Electric is currently pondering acquisitions on the Romanian market, focusing on companies that offer energy efficiency services. Also, the company says is ready to provide key components for an electrical car infrastructure which should be developed in Romania in the years to come.

Saulo Spaolanse, president of Schneider Electric Romania said in an interview for BR in October that within the next 20 years, between 5 and 25 percent of new cars will be electric, according to industry specialists. At present, there are around 5 million cars registered in Romania.

“We can deliver charging stations. We are waiting for Renault to launch an electric vehicle,” said Spaolanse on Monday.

In 2011, auto maker Renault signed agreements with Schneider, Electrica and Siemens for jointly developing an electric car infrastructure in Romania.

Spaolanse said the global focus of Schneider this year will be to consolidate the acquisitions made in 2011.

Last summer, Schneider paid around USD 2 billion for Telvent, the Spanish software and services company, stepping up its presence in the smart grid market.

“We are open to analyze files and we would like to find some companies ready to provide services on energy efficiency. It means commissioning, engineering, designing. It means high technical skilled companies which already provide maintenance services or consultancy in energy management,” Spaolanse told BR. However, he stressed that no negotiations have been carried out until now.

Schneider Electric launched this Monday Acti 9, a low voltage modular system for buildings that improves energy efficiency. The system has already been implemented in 22 countries including France, China or Russia, and Romania is the first in Central and Eastern Europe that benefits from this product.

Schneider Electric reported sales of EUR 22.4 billion in 2011, employing 130,000 people worldwide. The company has 180 employees in Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Around 53 people are working in Schneider’s customer relations center for its IT division opened last year in Bucharest.
