Ryanair flights from/to Bucharest among cancelled trips by October 28

Some flights operated by low-cost carrier Ryanair from and to Bucharest are among those cancelled by the company, as part of a wider reduction of trips by October 28.

The Rome-Bucharest (round trip) flight from September 23 was cancelled, as well as the Bologna-Bucharest (round trip) flight the next day. The flights from Milan to Bucharest (round trip) will be cancelled in the first four Sundays of October.

Other flights that were affected were from Dublin, London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid, Bergamo and Porto.

The company has announced on its website that up to 50 flights per day (less than 2 percent of flights) have been cancelled for the next six weeks. The passengers affected by this move can ask for a refund or change the cancelled flight for free.

According to media reports, some 285,000 passengers could be impacted by the cancellation of flights. The airline might pay up to GBP 17.7 million in compensation to passengers that bought tickets on the cancelled flights.

In 2016, Ryanair had 2.6 million passengers in Romania and the company estimated a 40 percent hike in users this year following the launch of four new routes.

Locally, the company operates 21 routes from Timisoara, Bucharest and Craiova.

At international level, the company has carries over 131 million passengers per year on more than 2,000 daily flights from 86 bases, connecting over 205 destinations in 33 countries on a fleet of 430 Boeing 737 aircraft, with a further 240 Boeing 737’s on order, according to a presentation of the company.

Ryanair has more than 13,000 employees.
