Finnish metal manufacturer Ruukki has signed a EUR 10 million contract with Outotec to deliver the steel structures for an ilmenite smelter to be built in Saudi Arabia. The manufacture of the structures will mainly take place at Ruukki’s Bolintin Deal plant in Romania.
“This is an important project for us and one in which we can utilise our special know-how since we are to provide the frame and wall elements as a joint delivery. In addition, we have the advantage of good logistics links provided by our plant inRomania,” said Sami Eronen, SVP, Building Projects, at Ruukki Construction.
Manufacture and deliveries will start in autumn this year and be completed during spring 2013, announced company representatives. Ruukki’s delivery comprises the steel frame structures and wall and roof cladding for the ilmenite smelter and casthouse.
Outotec is to build ilmenite (an iron titanium oxide and the primary ore of titanium) smelting facilities for Cristal Global, the world’s second largest titanium dioxide pigment producer. The new facilities are to be located in Jazan Economic City, Saudi Arabia and are scheduled for completion in 2014.
