Romania’s construction works up 0.9 pct y/y in June despite sharp decline in residential buildings

The construction works in Romania remained in the positive territory in June, increasing by 0.9 percent year-on-year, despite a sharp decline of residential buildings sector, official data show.

In May, the construction works grew by 1.2 percent year-on-year, following a sharp decline in April.

Residential buildings declined by 32.4 percent year-on-year in June, while engineering constructions – including government-financed roads and bridges works – increased by 15.8 percent. Non-residential buildings works rose by 9.8 percent year-on-year.

Capital repairs sector declined by 12.2 percent year-on-year, maintenance and current repairs rose by 22.3 percent, while new constructions sector declined by 2.9 percent compared with June 2017.

Compared with May, construction works decreased by 0.8 percent in seasonally adjusted series.

In the first six months of this year, construction works in Romania declined by 0.1 percent year-on-year, according to official data.
