Romanians are regional leaders in owning more than one smartphone

Romanians are regional leaders regarding the persons who own more than one smartphone and use it for at least four hours daily, according to a new report.

„Out of the 23 analyzed countries during the study, Romania, together with Bulgaria, showed the greatest potential of development on the mobile payments segment. Currently, only one Romanian out of 25 mentioned making payments from mobile, but the share of the ones who said that they would prefer using the smartphone for payments is significantly higher, 69 percent,” says the data of a study from IPSOS Research for Mastercard.

According to it, at the level of Central and Eastern Europe, the smartphone is the gadget with the greatest potential of replacing the card as preferred payment method, as 8 out of 10 regional consumers say that this is their preferred payment instrument after the card.

The study showed that Romanian are the most optimistic of the Europeans regarding the positive effect of the innovation over the society, so that 82 percent of them believe that innovation is beneficial for society, with a greater share than developed countries such as France (64 percent), Germany (70 percent) or UK (74 percent).

„The document shows that Romanians aged between 40 and 50 are more optimistic regarding the innovation that those aged between 20 an 29. The main fields were Romanian respondents said they would like to see more innovation are education system (53 percent), public transport (47 percent) and healthcare system (44 percent), ” said the IPSOS Research.

„What is interesting is that Romanians seem to be prepared to give up to the usage of PIN code for authorizing the card payment, only 29 percent of the respondents indicated this method, while 37 percent are more interested in biometrics authentication,” says the source.

The study was made by IPSOS Research for Mastercard during this summer and compiled data from 23 countries.
