Romania’s industry activity slowed down in April, after the peak registered in March, when the production reached the maximum level of the last 12 months, but it is still positive, according to the industrial barometer made by IRSOP and SNSPA, according to News.ro.

Industry is the key-sector of the Romanian economy, with a contribution of almost 23 percent to the GDP formation. The indicator for the production volume dropped from 64 points in March to 57 points in April. Despite the decrease, the indicator remains over the level of 50 points.

It’s clear that March was very good, but uncommon. It’s interesting that the situation from March-April 2016 has repeated, in the sense of a strong increase in March and a decrease in April, according to the study. The indicator for the number of employees went up by 48 points in March and 54 points in April, but most of the indicators dropped.

„Although the activity from the industry is still in growth, still 72.7 percent of the indicators decreased in April compared with March, while the rest of the indicators went down. In short, the volatility and the uncertainty in the industry seem to maintain,” say the authors of the study.

According to the official statistics published on the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the industrial production from Romania went up in the first three months of this year by 7.3 percent compared with the same period of 2016, after in March there was an increase by 10.3 percent.
