The National Statistics Institute has issued a flash estimate for GDP growth in the second trimester of 2011. According to preliminary data, the Romanian economy expanded by 0.2 percent in the second quarter versus the first trimester of 2011.
GDP grew for a second quarter, expanding an unadjusted 1.4 percent from a year earlier. In the first semester of 2011, the unadjusted growth of GDP was 1.6 percent, or a seasonally adjusted value of 0.3 percent.
GDP increased by 0.2 percent in the EU 27 during the second quarter of 2011, compared with the previous quarter, according to flash estimates published by Eurostat. In the first quarter of 2011, the growth rate for EU27 was 0.8 percent, while Romania reported a 0.7 percent growth rate.
The IMF and EC (European Commission) project that Romania will see a real GDP growth of about 1.5 percent for 2011, and a further 3.5 to 4 percent in 2012.
The statistics bureau will publish a second estimate on GDP evolution in the second trimester of 2011 on September 6.
